Weekly payouts are changing who takes gig work

The shift from monthly to weekly settlement altered the makeup of the workforce more than any pay rise did.

The headline rate did not move. The settlement cycle did, and that turned out to matter more.

Who it brought in

Applications rose sharply, and first-month dropout fell. Both effects were strongest among workers who had previously treated the platform as a stopgap.

Operators describe the change as cash-flow relief rather than a raise, which is precisely why it worked.
